About Me

Yvett (Yew) Castrejon is a Chicago-based multimedia artist and educator whose work explores the transformative power of creative expression. Working fluidly across media, she layers paper, image, texture, and mark—whether drawing to form structure, collaging to reconstruct memory, or capturing moments through a lens—to build visual stories grounded in experimentation, storytelling, and emotional honesty.

At the heart of Yvett’s practice is a personal philosophy she calls “The Art of Becoming.” This concept embraces art not merely as finished pieces, but as an ongoing process of transformation—welcoming the unknown, embracing imperfection, and allowing creative exploration to shape both the work and the artist. She creates from a place of openness, turning nothing into something, without limiting the freedom to express. She inspires others to engage with unfamiliar materials, lean into trial and error, and discover new parts of themselves through making. She believes true growth—artistically and personally—emerges through risk, reflection, and the courage to begin again.

THE ART OF BECOMING

THE ART OF BECOMING

The Art of Becoming is at the heart of my creative journey—a celebration of transformation, discovery, and the evolving nature of making art. This concept embraces the idea that art is not just about finished pieces, but about the ongoing process of growth, experimentation, and openness to the unknown.

Here, I invite you to explore a collection of materials, media, processes, and final works that reflect the ongoing dialogue between intention and discovery. Each element reveals a step in the journey—moments of trial and error, breakthroughs, and reflections that shape not only the artwork but the artist behind it.

Through this process of openness and experimentation, I also invite reflection on how we value the world around us, reminding us that true value lies not in objects themselves, but in how we choose to see, use, and care for them.

It all begins with an idea

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.

Don’t worry about making everything perfect. Just try your best. My process is all about trial and error. Discover, research, repeat, learn, and be open to growth. It is my philosophy to teach others that in order to be successful, one must be open to trying even if it means failure.
